The Rest of Us Just Live Here - Patrick Ness

"The indie kids think they're the only people in the world," [Jared] says. "They think their actions don't affect anyone but them."

Well, as far as this narrative is concerned, Jared, that's EXACTLY FUCKING RIGHT. What the indie kids are doing has NOTHING to do with this contemporary magical realism story that's supposedly going on. Who's got an actual plot? Indie kids. Who's dying? Indie kids. Who's living this boring life and seeing all the action from the edges? Normal kids.

This is why this book is failing.
